WILL GHEDI BE THE GOOD SOMALI SAMARITAN

The following parable is one of my favorite parables of our Prophet
Issa Ibn Mariam
the prophet of Allah
(may Peace be upon Him):

And behold
a certain lawyer stood up to tempt him saying

Master, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?
Master, what shall I do to go to paradise?
Master, what shall I do to be a good Somali?

He said unto him
What is written in the Sharia?
How do you read what is written in the Sharia?
How do you read what is written in the the holy scriptures?

And the lawyer answering said
You shall love the Lord your God

with all your heart
with all your soul
with all your strength
with all your mind
with all your moxie
with all your might
with all you main

And you ought to really love your neighbor as you love yourself.

And the Son of Man
who was and is now
the Man for Others
said unto him
you have answered right: this do, and you will live.

But the lawyer, willing to justify himself, said unto Jesus
And who is my neighbor?
And Jesus answering said

A certain Somali son went down from Johar to Jamama and fell among thieves

who stripped him of his raiment
who wounded him
who departed, leaving him half dead.

And by chance there came down a certain sheik that way:
and when he saw him
he passed by on the other side.

And likewise a Laylkasse
when he was at the place
came and looked on him and passed by on the other side.

But a certain Samaritan
as he journeyed
came where he was
and when he saw him
he had compassion on him
And went to him and bound up his wounds
pouring in oil
pouring wine
and set him on his own Abgal donkey
and brought him to an inn and took care of him.

And on the morrow when he departed
he took out two hundred thousand Somali shillings and gave them to the host and said unto him

Take care of him and whatsoever more you spend
when I come again
I will repay you.

Which now of these three
do you think
was neighbor unto him that fell
among the Somali merciless moriyan
among the Somali thieves
among the Somali warlords
among the wizards of Jalaf and Khalaf?

And the lawyer said, He that showed mercy on him.
Then said Issa Ibn Mariam unto the lawyer
Go, and you do likewise.

.........

This is how I now interpret this timely story:

the hapless hopeless man
who fell among the thieves
who fell victim to the thieves stands
for the Somali nation
for their infant nation-state
that is now

in the intensive care unit of Isbitaal Martiini
in Mog
in the hands of Ghedi
in the hands of his Abgal clan
in the hands of his Mudulood clan confederacy.

Will Ghedi now rise up and deliver
will his Abgal now rise up and deliver
will the rest of the Mudulood clan confederacy rise up and deliver

by meeting head-on this challenge of being the good Somali Samaritan
to the rest of the sicko psycho Somali nation
to our sick infant Somali Nation-State in Mogadishu?

Will they be the good
will they be kind
will they be the caring good neighbor
that we sick Somalis so badly need now?

I have no doubt
that Ghedi
that his Abgal
that his Mudulood clan confederacy
will do us proud
will do their best
will do their utmost
to revive
to resurrect
the Somali nation-state, so help them God!

The past is the prologue to the present.

The usable past encourages us to believe that
There is no better Samaritan than the good Abgal good Somali Samaritan
There is no better neighbor in the world than an Abgal neighbor

that is why Ina Abdille Hassan
our Somali Shakespeare and
our Somali Lord Protector rolled into one testified:

“Allaylehe dad lama caasiyee daris Abgaal baa leh!
Alleylehe dad lama hasdee daris Abgaal baa laeh!”

Allah is my witness
if Somalis are not ingrates
every one of them
ought to declare now
every one of them
ought to declaim now

upon every stage of the world
upon the world stage---

Neighborliness, thy name is Abgal!

I hate ingratitude more in a man
than lying
than vainness
than babbling
than drunkenness
or any taint of vice whose strong corruption
inhabits our frail blood

therefore fellow Somalis
Let us all now shout
from the roof tops of the world
testifying like Ina Abdille Hassan:

Neighborliness, thy name is Abgal Mudulood!
Somaliness, thy name is Abgal Mudulood!
Awada Jàw Abgal Mudulood!

Somalia!
Hanoolaato!

NOTES

Awada Jàw Abgal : (Somali) Only tonight do I deign to call myself an Abgal!
Siad Togane’s celebrated & inspired retort
to the Italian imperialist’s impudent policy of divide & rule &
to their crazy question—” Are you Dir Darod Dayuus Danyer?"—
while under duress
while under torture---
thus repudiating the crazy claims of his bovine Abgal clan
on his integrity
on his dignity
as a Somali citizen
as an autonomous individual
who does not belong to the savage Hawiye herd
the beginning of the revolutionary consciousness of the Somali race.

An old Siad Togane tune whose time is perennial
A time for every Somali to deny the crazy claims of the Somali KKK —Dir Darod Dayuus Danyer— upon him
a time to deny
a time to eschew
t he evil of clanism (the most insidious sort of racism)

a time to affirm friendship
a time to betray one’s clan rather than one’s friends
who are the medicine of life

A time to only connect!
A time to revive
A time to resurrect
A time to cultivate
A time to cathect

this salvific connection
this saving connection
this Somali connection

that binds us together
In the Bonds of Peace
in the Bonds Brotherly Love
In the Bonds of Somali Spirit of Unity
In the path of righteousness!

IT IS YAY TIME YOU-ALL!
IT IS SAGAL ALI TIME YOU-ALL!
AND DON’T YOU-ALL FORGET IT!
